Breastfeeding Support

Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children supports exclusive breastfeeding because of the proven health benefits. Our staff includes Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants and maternity nurses with special training in breastfeeding support. We are available to assist new mothers with breastfeeding immediately after delivery and throughout the hospital stay.

Our lactation consultants also provide many outpatient services for breastfeeding mothers.

  • Office visits by appointment to continue breastfeeding support even after mother and baby go home
  • Breastfeeding classes to help expectant mothers prepare for their new baby
  • Pump rentals by appointment
  • Breastfeeding support products available for purchase - we accept flexible spending account (FSA) payments for Medela products
  • Support groups to offer information, advice and support for breastfeeding mothers
    • Breastfeeding Mothers Group (Huntsville): NEW TEMPORARY MEETING TIME: 
      • Starting January 5, 2021, meetings will move to every Tuesday from 10 a.m. - noon in room 120B at the Women’s Pavilion. Masks are required to attend. Only nursing infants are allowed at this time. For more information, call Breastfeeding Support Services at 256-265-7285. 
    • Breastfeeding Support Group (Madison): Mondays, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Moms who need help weaning or who choose to breastfeed beyond the child's first birthday are invited to our "Extended breastfeeding group," which meets the 2nd Friday of each month, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. All Breastfeeding Support Group meetings are held in the Madison Hospital Wellness Center classroom.
